Westex® FR Fabric
Accidents in the workplace claim thousands of lives each year. Many of them preventable. Serious burns from flash fires and arc flashes cause some of the most serious injury and yet are some of the easiest to prevent with the right gear. Equip your team with proper uniforms made with industry leading fabric from Westex.
What is a Flash Fire?
A flash fire is a short-duration fire, typically less than three seconds, with a rapidly moving flame front. It can propagate through a facility as shock waves create dust waves ahead of the flame front. Wearing FR clothing that self-extinguishes can give workers time to escape a flash fire and dramatically reduce burn injuries.
What is an Arc Flash?
An arc flash occurs when an electric current passes through air between ungrounded and grounded conductors, causing temperatures to reach up to 35,000° F. Exposure to these extreme temperatures burns the skin directly and also causes ignition of clothing, which worsens the injury. The majority of hospital admissions due to electrical accidents are from arc flash burns, not from electric shock.
